About Shine Micro
Shine Micro has been designing a wide variety of microprocessor-based
electronics since 1980, with a focus on the marine VHF industry. At the
emergence of AIS technology in 2001, Shine Micro quickly became established
as an industry leader in ingenuity and innovation. Shine Micro products
are praised by commercial, recreational, and military users alike as the
most sensitive AIS receivers commercial available. The RadarPlus ® product
line includes an AIS solution for everyone; from individual pleasure boaters
to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and Department of Homeland Security
(DHS). Shine Micro is most recognized for the SM1610 Long Range AIS Receiver
selected by the USCG for the Nationwide Automatic Identification System
(NAIS) and the unique all-in-one Class B AIS transponder design of the
SM162B.
Through company founder and President Mark Johnson, Shine Micro stays
closely linked to the growth and development of the AIS industry and actively
participates in both National and International standards committees such
as the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Radio Technical
Commission for Maritime services (RTCM). Mr. Johnson is respected and
sought after as a leading authority on AIS receivers for his work promoting
the voluntary adoption of AIS and increasing the range and sensitivity
of AIS reception. Increasing awareness and promoting safety by making
AIS available and affordable for the everyday boater is a core value of
Shine Micro, Inc.
